ETL refers to the Data Warehouse data acquisition processes of Extracting, Transforming (or Transporting) and Loading (hence ETL) from source systems into a data warehouse or data mart.
ETL processes[edit]
Extract[edit]
Data are read from source systems. Data may be acquired from several sources that use different storage formats.
Transform[edit]
Data is moved from the source to the target systems and is cleaned-up and changed to accommodate the data structures on the target system.
Load[edit]
Data is loaded into the target data warehouse or data mart.
